Monday morning Inspiration # 47

Two young frogs fell into a bucket of milk. Both tried to jump to freedom, but the sides of the bucket were steep and no foundation was to be had on the surface of the liquid.
Seeing little chance of escape, the first frog soon despaired and stopped jumping. After a short while he sunk to the bottom of the bucket and drowned.
The second frog also saw no likelihood of success, but he never stopped trying. Even though each jump seemed to reach the same inadequate height, he kept on struggling. Eventually, his persistent efforts churned some milk into butter. From the now hardened surface of the milk, he managed to leap out of the bucket.

The moral of this little inspiring story:
--Those who don't give up and persevere may be in for a pleasant surprise!

Being in the right place at the right time

This was one thing I had been waiting for over a weeks time. Remember my post about me and my friend being selected for an Entrepreneurship workshop at IIT M based on the concept we came up with for the given problem statement.

It's yet another reason for us and our dear ones to rejoice as we ve yet again been selected for the Qualcomm's Innovator Challenge. One among the top ten teams who will be presenting our idea on October 2nd at IIT M.

When our results were out for the previous event I was jus so excited and started looking in for more events in their website for us to register in. That's when I came across this Quallcomm's Innovator challenge , where they had asked us to come up with a concept using GPS and mobile phones which was very similar to what we had done for our previous event . But the deadline for this event was jus' half hour away after modifying the previous document a bit within the available time. Here we are again finnaly selected.. Is this what they call being in the right place at the right time :)

Will you dine in here??

This is one of the forward mails that I got and thought it would be fun to share it with you all.
Mordern Toilet is a Taipei restaurant, it accomadates 100 seats each made from toilet bowls.
The specialities at the restaurant accompany sink faucets and gender coded WC signs that appear on the three storey structure. The food is stored in mini plastic toilet bowls . The toilet rolls that serve for wiping hand and mouth are hung above the table , which may resemble glass topped jumbo bath tubs .

Would you dine at this place?

Monday morning Inspiration # 45

I heard the story about a king in Africa who had a close friend with whom he had grown up. The friend had a habit of looking at every situation that occurred in his life (positive or negative) and remarking, "This is good!" One day the king and his friend were out on a hunting expedition.

The friend would load and prepare the guns for the king. The friend had apparently done something wrong in preparing one of the guns, for after taking the gun from his friend, the king fired it and his thumb was blown off. Examining the situation the friend remarked as usual, "This is good!" to which the king replied, "No, this is not good!" and proceeded to send his friend to jail.

About a year later, the king was hunting in an area wherein he should have known not to hunt. Cannibals captured him and took them to their village. They tied his hands, stacked some wood, set up a stake and bound him to the stake. As they came close to set fire to the wood, they noticed that the king was missing a thumb. Being superstitious, they never ate anyone who was less than whole. So untying the king, they sent him on his way.

As he returned home, he was reminded of the event that had taken his thumb and felt remorse for his treatment of his friend. He went immediately to the jail to speak with his friend. "You were right", he said, "It was good that my thumb was blown off." And he proceeded to tell the friend all that had just happened. "And so I am very sorry for sending you to jail for so long. It was bad for me to do this." "No," his friend replied, "this is good!" "What do you mean, 'this is good!' How could it be good that I sent my friend to jail for a year?" "If I had not been in jail, I would have been with you, and I would have been eaten!
Everything that happens, happens only for good.

It is success everywhere - Do I call it luck or hardwork?

I started blogging during one of the dull periods in my life, but now things have completely changed on a positive note right from my friends, to the way my parents treat me, my college life, studies, extra curicular activities and jus' everything around me looks rosy.

There have been time when I have so wanted atleast one aspect of my life to bring me happiness but I'm so happy with the way things around me has changed ..

Life is jus' speeding with so many activities, everything I try doing ends on a positive note :) Well, why did I actually come up with this post??

Yea, Me and my friend Dhruv had sent in a concept for developing a software product to be used in Mobile phones to the tech. fest(Shaastra '08) to be held in IIT Madras (one of the premier schools for Engineering in India) next month. And our entry has been selected :) We have been given the opportunity to attend the Entrepreneurship Workshop along with 48 other lucky people who got selected :).

This workshop had limited number of seats (50 to be precise) and I'm so so so happy to say we are among the lucky 50. The concepts we came up with was a flash of an idea to both of us and later we interlinked both to come up with the software concept. And 6hours of intese work for documenting and at the stroke of 12 at mid night on Sept 5th (due date and time) we sent in out entry. And here we are finally selected :) Do I call this luck or hardwork??

Monday Morning Inspiration # 44

I know my MMI is late by a day this week, my sincere apologies .Was held up in some college work.. Here comes this week's dose of inspiration.

Have you ever wondered how some of the worst things that happen in your life turn out to be some of the best experiences you've ever had?

Well, a fellow member of my church once told a story about one such experience that changed his life.
For years, he had difficulty saving to buy a house because something would always occur and consume more money than he had expected to spend. Despite his efforts he simply could not go long before spending the extra cash that he had saved.

Then one day a car accident badly damaged the car his wife was driving. Their mechanic estimated the cost of repairs at five thousand dollars. Unfortunately, they were presently in a financial bind and so the car would have to wait. After contemplating the situation he realized that they needed a solution to their financial problems. To remedy the situation he worked long and hard for weeks, saving and managing his money in a way he had never done previously. In a few months he had saved enough funds to have his wife's car repaired.

Once the car was repaired he discussed with his wife how quickly they had put aside the money they needed. During their discussion his wife encouraged him to open a second account so they could continue to put away the same amount of money that we were saving every week for the car repair. This money would go towards the house they had always wanted to purchase.

He was convinced that if he could save thousand of dollars in a few months he could eventually save enough to buy a house. For many years they had both wanted to buy their dream house but could not seem to come up with the down payment. However, in a little over a year he had saved more than twenty thousand dollars and was able to make the down payment. He had done something in a short while that he had failed to accomplish in his previous attempts to properly handle his finances.

Consequently, this man's experiences gave him a different feeling about money. He and his wife have continued to maintain their second account. This time they have decided to start saving for their retirement, putting away just a little less every week than they did for their house.
One man embraced a new set of traits because he had a goal that was imperative for him to achieve-he made a plan to achieve it and followed through. The experience of a single misfortune taught him a valuable lesson and challenged him to reprogram his saving, and spending habits. In the process he also changed his family's life. He now enjoys the material benefits along with a sense of accomplishment and pride.

The value of making the most of our experiences is that they teach us lessons about life- about failures, successes, and everything in between.
In the midst of our challenges always remember success often comes in disguise.

Monday Morning Inspiration # 43

A man feared his wife wasn't hearing as well as she used to and he thought she might need a hearing aid. Not quite sure how to approach her, he called the family Doctor to discuss the problem. The Doctor told him there is a simple informal test the husband could perform to give the Doctor a better idea about her hearing loss.

Here's what you do," said the Doctor, "stand about 40 feet away from her, and in a normal conversational speaking tone see if she hears you. If not, go to 30 feet, then 20 feet, and so on until you get a response."

That evening, the wife is in the kitchen cooking dinner, and he was in the den.

He says to himself, "I'm about 40 feet away, let's see what happens." Then in a normal tone he asks, 'Honey, what's for dinner?" No response.

So the husband moves to closer to the kitchen, about 30 feet from his wife and repeats, "Honey, what's for dinner?" Still he got no response.

Next he moves into the dining room where he is about 20 feet from his wife and asks, Honey, what's for dinner?" Again he gets no response so;

He walks up to the kitchen door, about 10 feet away. "Honey, what's for dinner?"
Again there is no response. So he walks right up behind her.

"Honey, what's for dinner?" "Honey, for the FIFTH time I've said, CHICKEN!"

Lesson from the story:

Problem may not be with the other one as we always think, could be very much within us..! So don't always blame others for the thing that you may lack.
