Monday morning Inspiration # 49

While at the park one day, a woman sat down next to a man on a bench near a playground.
“That’s my son over there,” she said, pointing to a little boy in a red sweater who was gliding down the slide. “He’s a fine looking boy” the man said. “That’s my daughter on the bike in the white dress.”

Then, looking at his watch, he called to his daughter. “What do you say we go, Melissa?”
Melissa pleaded, “Just five more minutes, Dad. Please? Just five more minutes.”
The man nodded and Melissa continued to ride her bike to her heart’s content. Minutes passed and the father stood and called again to his daughter. “Time to go now?”
Again Melissa pleaded, “Five more minutes, Dad. Just five more minutes.”
The man smiled and said, “OK.”
“My, you certainly are a patient father,” the woman responded.

The man smiled and then said, “Her older brother Tommy was killed by a drunk driver last year while he was riding his bike near here. I never spent much time with Tommy and now I’d give anything for just five more minutes with him. I’ve vowed not to make the same mistake with Melissa.

She thinks she has five more minutes to ride her bike. The truth is, I get Five more minutes to watch her play.”

Life is all about making priorities, what are your priorities?Give someone you love 5 more minutes of your time today!

Go Goa !!

I'm off to Goa on 17th Oct. as a part of the Industrial Visit from college :) I ll be away from blogging for almost a week time , will be getting back home on the 22nd .

This is my first visit to Goa and I'm really interested to hear things I should not miss in Goa. Me being a vegetarian I already know I'm gonna miss the Goan cuisine which mainly consists of sea food. Neverthless, if there are any veggie goan delecacies I would indeed be glad to try them out.

On the way back from Goa we will be spending a day in Bangalore , where we will be visiting one company and shopping in M.G. Road :) . I would be glad to hear interesting info. about Goa :)

Saraswathi pooja celebrations

It's festival season across India , its the time of the year when you find it a nightmare to step into one of those popular shopping places , its time for sweets sweets and more sweets, its time to refurbish your wardrobe with party wears and ethnic wears to enjoy the festive season in style .. This is one season I love the most for it involves meeting a lot of friends and relatives and ofcourse retail therapy!!!

One of the main festivals celebrated down south in Tamil Nadu is Saraswathi Pooja/ Vijayadasmi , its the festival to thank goddess saraswathi for the knowledge and wealth you ve been blessed with . It's one day when parents ask their kids not to study as the books are kept for pooja , I loved this day as a kid ;)

All things used in day to day life are given a break from their regular routine , they are cleaned and decorated with flowers , sandal wood paste and kum kum (this is specially done for the vehicles)

Monday Morning Inspiration # 48

A water bearer in India had two large pots, each hung on each end of a pole which he carried across his neck. One of the pots had a crack in it, and while the other pot was perfect and always delivered a full portion of water at the end of the long walk from the stream to the master's house, the cracked pot arrived only half full.

For a full two years this went on daily, with the bearer delivering only one and a half pots full of water in his master's house. Of course, the perfect pot was proud of its accomplishments, perfect to the end for which it was made. But the poor cracked pot was ashamed of its own imperfection, and miserable that it was able to accomplish only half of what it had been made to do.

After two years of what it perceived to be a bitter failure, it spoke to the water bearer one day by the stream. "I am ashamed of myself, and I want to apologize to you."

"Why?" asked the bearer. "What are you ashamed of?"

"I have been able, for these past two years, to deliver only half my load because this crack in my side causes water to leak out all the way back to your master's house. Because of my flaws, you have to do all of this work, and you don't get full value from your efforts," the pot said.

The water bearer felt sorry for the old cracked pot, and in his compassion he said, "As we return to the master's house, I want you to notice the beautiful flowers along the path."

Indeed, as they went up the hill, the old cracked pot took notice of the sun warming the beautiful wild flowers on the side of the path, and this cheered it some. But at the end of the trail, it still felt bad because it had leaked out half its load, and so again it apologized to the bearer for its failure.

The bearer said to the pot, "Did you notice that there were flowers only on your side of your path, but not on the other pot's side? That's because I have always known about your flaw, and I took advantage of it. I planted flower seeds on your side of the path, and every day while we walk back from the stream, you've watered them. For two years I have been able to pick these beautiful flowers to decorate my master's table. Without your being just the way you are, he would not have this beauty to grace his house.

The Moral of this Story: Each of us has our own unique flaws. We're all cracked pots. But it's the cracks and flaws we each have that make our lives together so very interesting and rewarding. You've just got to take each person for what s/he is, and look for the good in them.

There is a lot of good out there.

My week that went by ...

Last week was a very memorable week for me as it had all the essential ingredients, I would otherwise call it a perfect week . Had regular classes on Monday and tuesday, had my hols starting form wednesday . It was the day before our Qualcomm innovator Challenge so we were busy preparing and reharsing our presentation.

Thursday was the day of our event, it was postponed from the morning session to the noon session and our presentation was sometime around 5:30 in the evening . I really liked the way our presentation went on. We were not able to make it to the top three, but we ended up in the fifth position of the 5312 entries that came by . I was indeed happy! I also happened to attend an entrepreneurship workshop for which we were selected and that was quite informative as well :)

After all this I also got to watch a movie Sakarakati and met up with a couple of my childhood friends, we also dropped by my school and clicked a few pics.. OMG! How much its changed from what it was ..
