Singapore, here I come......

My parents and I are planning to visit Singapore sometime around the 1st or 2nd week of January 2008. Since this is going to be my first trip to Singapore ( or anywhere out of India for that matter) ..I'm really excited . We will be there around for about 5 days I guess. So, I would like to request all my blogger friends from Singapore and others who have knowledge about the place to suggest places for sight seeing , shopping, dining and also good hotels for accomodation . The usual ones as well as the off beat places which are usually not mentioned in the guide books or websites.. I would also like to read if you have had some wonderful experience or about any general tips about visiting Singapore..

Looking forward for your responses :)

go visit the Jurong Bird Park, underwater world @ Sentosa Island, Raffles Hotel, chinatown, late night shopping at Mustafa Center , if you're craving for indian banana leaf rice, go to Little India. and one more thing, the Lion City is known for its cleanliness, so dont throw on the ground..it's indeed a serious offence!

I have no ideas but I hope you have a wonderful time making your plans!

Hi Shalini,

Am penning this note from Singapore where it is rainy season, so be warned. I recommend you check out the RELC international hotel, I stayed there for 1+ year, it is very clean, conveniently located near Shangri-la Hotel, friendly staff, and best of all, reasonable value for money!

Go to Esplanade, Little India of course, and walk with your parents along Orchard Road, directly from your hotel, it's great for exercise, end to end takes 2+ hours, with delightful stops along the way.

Botanical Gardens too is only 1/2 hour walk away from RELC hotel, and it is quite a peaceful experience to walk there before 9am, or between 5pm and 7pm.

I love eating at Komala's where Brahmin food is served clean, reasonably priced, hot and almost authentic (ok, ok, it won't match your sambhar I'm sure, everytime I read your recipe, my mouth waters).

If you need more info, pls email alpine_climber@yahoo.com.

All the best,

My hubby works at the Singapore Zoo. I can meet up with u dear. : ) No entrance charged, he can bring us in to the zoo, night safari n jurong birdpark. Let me know, i will give you my hp no to contact.

plan your trip well. the hotel concierge can help you with that. you can do this if want.

goto Mount Faber first. take the cable car ride to Sentosa. Sentosa has alot of attractions. While in Sentosa don forget to goto the Under Water world and the dolphin show. if u were to volunteer during the show and the prize is a kiss from the dolphin! Yes, u can get up close and personal with the dolphin.

After sentosa you can take a fery to harbour front or walk across the bridge and u will reach vivo city. You can have your dinner at Vivo city( Singapore's biggest shopping center.) they have a food court in Vivo city which is designed in a olden day Singapore look and serving the Oriental foods of Singapore.

thats one day for you.

Hi Shalini...read ur blog and learnt that u r gonna come down to Singapore. I'm a Sngaporean and just thought that i might drop u a few tips on where u can go for good bargains while shopping here. U can go down to Bugis Village @ Bugis (opp Parco Bugis Junction). U can go down to Far East Plaza In Orchard Rd. U can see the christmas decoration which will still be up till 1st or 2nd week of Jan. As for getting everything under one roof, u can go down to Mustafa in Serangoon road. Must see tourist attractions include the Night Safari, the Zoo, Bird Park,Sentosa etc.. U can go down to Wild wild wet (themepark) if u r into such things. Hope u have a wonderful time here.
