Alma matter continues ..

The second major interview happened during my transition to higher secondary schooling. It wasn't much, all that mattered there was my 10th board exam marks and the mark that I had scored of that particular school .. I remember having applied to two schools - S.B.O.A school and junior college where I did till my 10th grade and S.B.I.O.A model HSS which is another sister concern of the SBOA group of schools.

I gained admission into both the schools and in the group I wanted to.. I opted to go with S.B.I.O.A model HSS which then was in the same campus as my old school but taught state board syllabus which was then considered t be easier than CBSE from which I moved in. This is one decision that I truly regret having took in my life, not that the new school was bad but I liked the earlier one better and I always think my higher secondary schooling would have been more the way I wanted it to be had I not changed schools .. I see a number of students who have the same problem when changing schools during their 11th and 12th grade ..

The best competition for admission comes when selecting the tution for the various subjects. I have never had tution classes in all my years of schooling except for in 12th grade .. When everyone opts to go to popluar names in the city for tution, one gets the urge to join in to avoid being left out from some extra info that may help you score the tens of marks more ... At the end, tution classes turn out to be yet another place to have fun with friends ..

Moving out of school and into a university was one of the first tough decisions (it was tough back then) to make in life .. since it was left to me to decide.. I love my decision completely now, yet another place I loved being in and being a part of SRM University :)

I am into the next phase of life now .. more interviews.. more admissions .. be it what may I truly wish and pray life is as exciting and fun filled as it has always been with great people around.

Paratha Tasting (Blog marathon post 2)

It was the last official working day of our college for our batch - Final years "The batch of 2010". After meeting almost all the friends and sharing pleasantries and after rejoicing at the thought there isn't going to be any exams in the near future and especially no maths exam ever again in life we bid adieu to all our pals and teachers.

The evening of 17th May was a day to rejoice, we had the paratha tasting get together at the guindy rocker's paradise at Dhanalakshmi flats (I'm already missing this place too much). Ash, joy, guruji, Bholu, Killa, Abi, Kaustav and Ritu hosted a bunch of us to an evening of Parathas - the best of kind I've ever tasted and it was truly one of a kind evening that I enjoyed the most.

Every time Ashish said their cook was wonderful, I never took it too seriously until that evening where I was treated to those yummy parathas.. what a treat it was to our taste buds.. Every time I think of those parathas and I become hungry..






Nice hot parathas topped with butter accompanied with some corn and paneer subji.. I wonder if I could ever get to taste parathas like that ever again. We had five different types of Paratha dal paratha, aloo paratha, cheeni paratha, paneer paratha and masala paratha .. When I start a restaurant I sure would make Vikas - the cook of guindy rockers as one of our chefs.

That was the first and last time I got to taste those wonderful creations *slurp*

Blogging mararthon

A post each a day for the next 30 days .. Yup, I finally want to try this out after reading about a blog marathon that is being conducted here.

I will be joining work in ten days and I jus' hope I could keep up the spirit of the blog marathon the entire month and always :)

THE HAPPY ME !!

I have finally got my final semester engineering results and hurray I've cleared all the papers and I'm happy to let you all know that I have successfully completed my engineering course with an 81 percentile and hence will be Shalini B.Tech. (or) Er. Shalini.

Whatta journey it has been, I probably should start writing a series containing my various adventures, mis adventures and experiences that I gained in my last few years of doing my graduate studies :)

I'm gladly hoping that each step in life is as fun filled and interesting and successful as this one or even more.

I am back and its gonna be blogging marathon ..

It's been a while since I regularly posted here .. project work, exams , time out with friends, bday parties, get togethers .. Its been crazy at my end, which I'm sure is to continue for a while jus' that I have a break of couple of days in between to take life in slow motion since I have been sprinting all along.

So, starting now its gonna be a big time blogging marathon in this space for the next couple of days .. after which it would be the regular 2-3 posts per week type of blogging :))

I jus' wanna get addicted to posting here, the way I used to be until sometime ago but twitter has been trying to woo me offlate ;)

I'm finally done with my dreadful project reviews, thou' we didn't do much for the project I got to learn a lot through experience which I'm sure would be lessons for life.

My engineering semester exams have seen their end. I'm done with it all. Will officially be an engineer very shortly .. Phew ! In between all of these there has been quite a lot of fun filled moments which im lookinh to post in the coming posts .

The week that was ..

The last one week has been totally hectic .. hectic to the level I hardly visited any social networking site.. the only reason I went to FB and twitter were to find the authors of the base paper, which we are using for our engineering project to check if we could get any guidance from them..

With the final internal review getting over yesterday and jus the external review to go on in a couple of days .. I'm finally relaxing , a much needed break I would say ..

Chilled out at Blitz cafe, Anna nagar last evening - didn't like the place much, I don' suggest it to anybody as long as your there for hookah..

Drove to college .. loved driving the i 20 :) .. After some chilling out have to get going for the next 2 days until we are done with the last and the final review on monday .. All is well that ends well :)

A beginning for a lot of things that is going to end soon...

I wrote my last cycle test (probably) that I would ever write today .. It was on Data mining .. It went on decently well ..

It is the beginning of a lot of things that is going to end soon(Courtesy : Ashish)- like the last cycle test , the last day in class ( sigh, I don' want this to happen too soon ).

The status message of many of my friend's in Facebook is the count down of the number of days left in college .. In one way I'm sad at the thought of not being around with so many of your friends at the same time , being totally irresponsible , aimlessly roaming the city, movie times in class, walking around the campus under the hot scorching sun , diwali get togethers with friends , a dozen of us fighting for a news paper , group studies, friendly chat with the staffs .. I'm sure Im gonna miss them all very soon ..

But, on the other hand I truly feel I have been here and done all these a way too much and its time to move on to the next phase .. Jus' the anticipation part of what it is gonna be like is making me feel the same way, when was put in a new class in college couple of years ago .. This turned out to be really good and I hope the future is as good and fun in every way :)

Some people Some moments # 3

With all the good moments of college coming to a near end, it has been maximum fun with everyone wherever we are be it college or outside.

It was one such day when my friend H decided on treating me and D for a dinner out. After taking me around the city for a whole lot of time with no clue as to where I was gonna dine. Finally when the car entered Radisson GRT , I felt a sigh of relief for finally getting into "the" place and a sense of excitement as I have always wanted to dine at The great Kebab Factory at Radisson from the time I and D did our internship at GRT.

After relishing the yummilicious kebabs and the mouth melting desserts (I am skipping the biryani we had, it is was BAD) , it was an icing on the cake when we saw Surya , Jothika, Diya with a few other friends of theirs walk into the restaurant. The remaining time I was inside the restaurant all that I did was try to catch a glimpse of them every now and then. It turned out to be a treat in all senses :)

My semester that was ..

(This post is more about getting my thougts 6 months back .. whoosh ! and fast forward with all the events that has happened with me in college since then .. until now. )

This happened to be my pre final semester . Usually the odd semesters turn out to be longer and so was this one streching from July to November (comparitivley shorter than the usual odd semesters).

My 7th sem started on a very positive note, well no specific reasons but then jus' the general feeling you get coz of the people around you. Thanks to you guys! This sem I guess was one of the fun filled ones with lots of hanging around with friends, I can hardly remember the time we ever had class this semester.

What did we do in class ?? Sudoku .. Chennai times, metro plus, movie in the laptop, CHATTING, canteen times .. There were also some delightful moments , which I'm really glad about and will always be a part of my resume ;) .. The fun trip to Annamalai University, Chidambaram in July 09 to present papers in an International Conference and winning it was jus' an icing on the cake :) .. Cressida '09 (our department symposium) in August where I was part of the core team who conducted Paper presentation .. Aarush (our college tech fest) saw us participating in a couple of events .. Friendship day celebration , Diwali celebration :) ..

I also got to know a lot of new juniors in the bus who eventually turned out to be my very good pals. My so very peaceful bus journey, which is how its been the last couple of years is turning out to be a total hungama with all these new found friends :)

Final lap of college ...

I'm jus' starting to feel the essence of the final year in college thou we ve come to the end of the pre final semester ..

There hardly is anything happening in classes these days, we ve got more of free hours than lectures, more fun than studying, projects, entrance exams ..... Well, though it is time to get all responsible there are times when you feel the pressure to be jus too much.. I jus' hope all goes well :)

My eventful happenings in College - Part 1

I have been wanting to write about a few things thats been happening at my end in college for a while now, but my laziness to transfer the pics from my cam has stopped me from doing so .. but not any longer :)

I for many reason like my department (Information Technology) in my university , I kinda get this feeling that its one closely knit unit with its not so vast number of students and very friendly staffs :) For the inaugration of the IT Association for this academic year my dad was invited to be the chief guest for the event and I loved the day and the way things turned out to be that day ..

Planting sapplings were also a part of our event proceedings , it was fun time with the department faculty and friends .

WOW ! Whata week its been ..

After a week of bunking classes, skipping lunches, long hours of meetings, planning, coordinating, driving around the city, replying to mails and phone calls, running, jogging , hopping ... and doing almost everything that I could think of I'm SO proud to say CRESSIDA was a super duper hit and so was our event Manuscript - Paper Presentation.

Thou' it wasn't possible for me to be a part of every event , since I had to stick on to my event im so very happy with the way things turned out to be.. Thou' each of us were completley worn out to say the least , the appreciation we got from our staff and participants jus' over shadowed our tired selves.

I think it was during last month - July 09 hat I majorly got to check out so many new restaurants in and around Chennai (all this was partly coz of Cressida - driving around the city to get different work done), this actually inspired me to start a new blog "Eatin out" in which I should be starting to write shortly...

July 09 was one very eventful month in all aspects and would be one that i would always remember as one of the best times of my college days..

I'm yet to transfer pics from my cam .. will do it shortly and there is so much I wanna share with you all here.. (It's jus' recently did I realise that there is some prob. with my camera .. looks like its getting old ;) )

Wassup with me ??

College is turning out to be so much fun in the final year, not that it hasn't been till now .. but jus' the fact that it is the final year is pepping up everyone's mood to have as much fun as possible , so we don' regret later for all the fun we missed.. Studying has always been scheduled for the last few days before exam .

I've been reading this book "The Alchemist" written by Paulo Coelho which I borrowed from my friend after hearing a bit of what the book is all about. It seemed to be a very inspiring book, thou it being a lil philosophical ..

When the often used quotes like " When you wanna achieve something in this world so desperately, you will always find someone to help you" (I totally agree with this one and many such lines used in the book often). These seem pretty inspiring when reading it alone as a quote but as a book , its such an irony I felt so heavy hearted while reading this book .. This has not jus' happened with me but a few other friends of mine as well ...

A few other friends of mine have left abroad for higher studies and a few of them will be leaving very shortly . It is hard to believe that they are no more around in Chennai where they are jus' a call away and tada ... all of you meet as and when you want .. *sighh*

We have our department's technical symposium coming up on the 7th and 8th of next month , where i ll be coordinating for the paper presentation event along with my friends...thats keeping me lil busy as well .

All that apart we are planning for a movie watching spree .. all old and new movies with a lot of new releases ..

I along with my friends caught up with this movie " Vedigundu murugesan" (I don think this movie requires a seperate post, so thats the reason im putting it along with a lot other miscellaneous stuffs).

I fell asleep 2 times and would have continued my sleep hadn't I been woken up by my friend .. A movie with no well defined storyline .. in fact im still wondering where the story started and how it ended .. The only entertaining thing about it was the comment we could pass ... I strongly reccommend not to watch this movie even if your totally jobless ...

Entering the last lap of my college life ..

I have jus' stepped into my final year of college and I'm already starting to feel a lil insecure about parting ways with my friends even if it going to be only after almost a year .. But the first week of my final year went on really well , very eventful actually.

It was my parent's wedding day on the 9th, so had dinner out with parents and grand parents . And on the 8th was my friend's bro's wedding so a bunch of us from college had been there to bless the couple ;) well actually jus another reason to enjoy with friends .. And we have our department symposium coming up in my university , that is again keeping me occupied.

This was in the metropolitan train while on my way back from the wedding .

Looks like the final year is going to be a lot very eventful :) I hope all goes well :)

My Univ. ROCKS!!

It is yet another proud moment for those associated with SRM University as it has been ranked 8th in the country in both Engineering as well as Medical studies .

Apart from that it has been ranked the third best in South India taking into consideration all the private and goverment educational institutions .

I am so proud! :) I am an SRMite! :)

This ranking was out on The Times of India Issue dated 30 March 2009. Will update this post with the link soon .

My Valentine's day out

Getting up at 7 in the morning ( I was already late , had planned to be up by six) and checking up with my friends as to what they all were upto ..It was already 7:30 .
I jus' had half hour to get ready and leave to the local train station. I took the 8:15 direct train to college (else I had to change 2 trains to reach college). I had promised my friend Krithika to be there in the college by 9am but ended up meeting her at 10.

It was the second day of our college cuturals Milan'09 at SRM University. Was there to see my friend Jayashree perform at the classical singing competition. Thou' I'm not much into singing myself these days , being there at this competition has made me fall in love with carnartic music all over again btu only second to DANCE :)

I have been trying to recall the songs that I ve learnt in my 7 years of classical training. Not bad, I do remember a considerable amount :)

Following this , I jus' had a peek into few other shows that had been going on before we could leave from college a little later than noon. Got back home , slept and evening went shopping with mom to get gifts for my parents and my best friend Dhruv for Valentines day .. Later, in the evening I was sweetly surprised when my parents got me a personalised photo frame for V-day and a wonderful card .. Thanks ma and pa :)



And I also got a cute hand crafted gift from my friend Dhruv and a beautiful card. We ( me and my mom) still wonder if guys could select such nice cards. Later that day had a small meet up with few of my friends before I could have my dinner and crash .. That was how beautiful my day went by :)

Looks like its holidays all over again :D

It is hardly been a week since my classes started for the new semester and I was almost in the verge to make a post on what all stuffs I had been upto during my vacation .. Before even things could settle in , it looks like the college in Tamil Nadu , India will be closed indefinetly due to the war in Sri Lanka ...

This ives me mixed feeling of both happiness and also makes me a little sad. But still I'm more happy than I'm sad :)

Back to square 1

Meeting old school buddies, outing with friends, loads of movies, lazy afternoon enjoying your favourite book, driving around the city (yup, Im finally learnt to drive the car and I drive it all by myself) , Long chats , new year celebrations, jaipur trip and much much more.. It time for all these fun to end and get a little serious with life and studies...

Today was my first day in college for the next new semester , thou' I had been to college to attend the two exams last week that had been postponed due to the heavy showers which happened on Dec 08. But, still I would like to think today was the day my classes officially started... I'm already starting to like this semester , all is well that goes well ;)

My math marvel :)

I jus' gave my last math paper(Operation Research) for the entire engineering course today and believe me this is my best performance in maths after my 2nd grade.. I'm jus' more than happy to say the least. One exam down and 5 more to go. Do i even sound like that?? I know I don' Im jus so excited that I did my maths paper well , more so coz I'm an anti math person .. Jus' planning to enjoy the day and catch up with the second part of princess diaries . I'm jus' hoping I do the other papers well too. You all have agreat weekend. Have fun! :)

The Singapore Series which I started in my travel blog , Shalini's travelogue will end in a week's time(I have been regularly updating it for the last couple of days). Up next is my experiences in Goa .I visited Goa as a part of my college tour with friends. We stayed at Goa for 3-days and it was so much fun. It's already 2 weeks from teh time I returned and I'm still in the Goa hangover, that's the amount of fun we had..

I'm busy dating books

It's that time of the year again when most college students dust off those bulky books, lock themselves up in their rooms dating books and come out jus' to have their meal and go for exams.. My exams have started today and with it comes serious studying. I jus' got done with my practical exams *keeping my fingers crossed that I should score well*.

Have my model exams going on now, this will be followed with our semester exams.. So its gonna be a month full of exam marathon. Nevermind, I will still be able to post in my blog and drop by all your blog spaces as well as I'm done with the tedious tasks of getting the records ready.
This was what kept me away from all of you for the last couple of weeks.. Sorry about not being able to post on my MMI you can look forward to a very interesting MMI this coming Monday.
