Run Chennai Run..

Today was one of the important day in Chennai's yearly calender. "The MARG Chennai Marathon" was held today morning and there were various categories for people in various age groups. I so wanted to take part one reason cause its the most talked about event in the city and the other , it being promoted for a social cause.

After registering myself for the event, due to certain circumstances I wasn't able to take part in it :( . But looks like there has been a huge turn out around 50,000 people for the 7km run alone. Way to go Chennaites!

I hope many of you here would ahve been there to support the social cause and many others who jus' wanted to be there to see how it is.. I would love to hear your experiences :)

i wanted so bad to participate but none of my friends would join me. btw 21.5 KM is not a marathon. its a half marathon. A marathon is 42Km.

based on what i came to know about the crowds and how women are treated in chennai, i would support your mom.
neither would i send my sisters.

i would have only run if i had company, although i am good in long distance runs, i only do so well in my timings because i just want it to be over asap.

maybe someday we could go for a morning run.

The name marathon comes from the legend of Pheidippides, a Greek messenger. The legend states that he was sent from the town of Marathon to Athens to announce that the Persians had been defeated in the Battle of Marathon. It is said that he ran the entire distance without stopping and burst into the assembly, exclaiming "NiKi" (victory) before collapsing and dying.

he covered around 40 Km. and thus in commemoration Greeks stated the marathon.

-just sharing
